3. Verona
Home to the tragically romantic lovers Romeo and Juliet, Verona is located in Northern Italy at the base of the Alps. This city is home to plenty of Roman ruins, and Verona’s Opera Festival during the summer months in the historic Roman arena. The Piazza delle Erbe was once an ancient Roman forum, and is now an open-air fruit and vegetable market. Don’t forget to visit Juliet’s balcony and rub her statue. If you are a fan of art and architecture, be sure to visit the Romanesque Basilica of St. Zeno. Verona is defintely one of the most affordable places to visit in Italy that are also beautiful.
