There was a time when being obese is somewhat unheard of but over the past years, being overweight has become somewhat common especially in some countries wherein the rates of people who are obese are high. People cannot help but ask if obesity can be linked to how rich the country is or if people from countries with highest standard of living tend to be more obese because it seems that people who tend to eat out more may become more obese in the long run.

There is a possibility that people become surprised that United States is only in this position when in fact, a lot of people there are always complaining about their weight. One main reason for this is because they are obsessed with trying to maintain their figures and they make such a big deal out of it than other countries that are actually having obesity problems that are worse than what they are experiencing.
6. South Africa – 33.5%
There are a lot of people who associate all the countries in Africa with poverty. Although this is not true, with some countries in Africa having middle class economies, South Africa is the only country in Africa with people experiencing some weight problems. It seems that the appearance of fast food in this country has made people’s health decline steadily over the past years. People in South Africa are also happy to be obese since they usually associate wealth with being heavy.
5. United Arab Emirates – 33.7%
The obesity rates in this country have gotten quite alarming that there are some things that the government does that the government in other countries will not do. The government of UAE has placed a challenge wherein those who would lose weight will get gold. This is actually a win-win situation with a lot of obese people living in other countries wishing that they can also partake on the challenge. It is also trying to improve the type of food that they are offering to the public and they are lessening the amount of junk food being sold as well.
4. Jordan – 34.3%
It seems that the trend in Jordan is that women tend to be more obese than men. Genetically speaking, this is more likely since women’s bodies tend to be made up of more fat than muscle. It seems that a lot of women in Jordan are not given the proper place to exercise and they do not have the facilities and items that they can use in order to start exercising to lose the extra pounds. This has contributed to the number of people suffering from obesity in this country. This makes it one of the countries with highest obesity rates.
3. Egypt – 34.6%
There are a lot of people in Egypt who have become obese over the past years probably because of the advertisement that they see on television. The appearance of junk food and the food being readily available has increased the weight of people in Egypt. It is also an alarming fact that most people here drink soda every day and they do not drink it just once, they drink it about 3 – 5 times a day. Truly, if efforts will not be placed, obesity rates will rise up in the future.
2. Saudi Arabia – 32.5%
It seems that Saudi Arabia is starting to move towards the gender equality trend that is being promoted all over the world. Some of the places wherein women were not permitted to enter before are now open for women. The fitness center or the gym is one place wherein women can now sweat off their excess pounds. It is also an effort to lower the percentage of people who are currently obese in this country. A lot of the diseases that this country is experiencing right now is related to weight problems.
1. Kuwait – 42.8%
There are a lot of people who become shocked when they learn that Kuwait is number one on the list because it is not usually talked about but it seems that their love for fast food has increased the obesity rates of people who are living here. The obesity rates here are so high than in 2 people, one of them will surely be obese.
Obesity is something that should not be taken lightly especially those who are living in countries with highest obesity rates because they are linked to a variety of health diseases. Living healthy can improve people’s energy and strength and lengthen people’s life expectancy rate.
