I genuinely don’t understand the concept of boarding school for children. It’s like sending your child off to college while they’re still in elementary school and there’s something kind of wrong about that in my eyes. Boarding school basically means the kid lives at school, which is literally the college experience in a nutshell, so I don’t get why parents spend enormous amounts of money to not spend time with their child. Maybe they just shouldn’t have kids. I could be missing some information here, but in my opinion, this just seems like an easy way to not spend time with your kids.

The other side of this is with a boarding school there’s a lot more discipline and teachers who have extra qualifications to ensure your child gets the highest quality education possible. It’s like a step up from private school. It’s not that parents who send their kids to top-notch institutions are intrinsically better or care about their kids more, but since they have the means they put those means toward education, which is at least somewhat worthy of praise. This school has 190 school days per year and the majority of the teachers have a Master’s degree. It’s an all-boy’s boarding school with students from third to eighth grade. The children don’t have to participate in Saturday classes, so they get the weekends free.

6. Leman Manhattan Preparatory School

All children can attend this school from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade. There’s no religious affiliation and there are 169 school days during the year with eight hours each day. Some of the activities include a student newspaper, tutoring, choir, golf, basketball, golf, swimming, rock climbing, and fencing.

The selectivity for North County School is 13 percent higher compared to other boarding schools, meaning the school only accepts 68 percent of applicants. It’s open to both boys and girls from fourth to ninth grade. The weekends are free and the dress code is casual.

The Kildonan School is for all students from fourth to 12th grade. It’s a great school, particularly for its special education program. It has a formal dress code, but very small class sizes. It’s definitely one of the best boarding schools in New York for elementary school.

The Hackley School is open for all students from kindergarten through 12th grade. The average class size is 16, which is three times more than the average class size for boarding schools. Incoming students have a 73 percent SSAT score and this school has a 34 percent acceptance rate, which is 43 percent lower than most boarding schools.
