We all know the Disney princesses: they’re beautiful, they’ve had a hard life, and, most often than not, they are full of money, so we’re going to take a look and see which care the 6 richest Disney princesses of them all.
The idea of a Disney Princess has been around for years, but it’s been only in the past couple of decades that a media franchise was actually created to encompass them all. As of 2015, there are eleven princesses, namely Snow White, Aurora, Cinderella, Belle, Jasmine, Ariel, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana, Merida and Rapunzel. There are, however, other Disney characters that are popular with the masses, including Frozen’s Elsa and Anna, and will probably be included among the official Disney Princesses in due time.
There are many controversies surrounding these Disney Princesses, starting with the unrealistic body images some feel they push on young girls, continuing with the fact that they always seem to have a need for someone else to fix their problems instead of doing it for themselves. After all, Cinderella could have easily gone out and worked on cleaning other people’s houses rather than slaving around for her step mother and sisters for free.
On the other hand, they continue to be extremely popular among children of all ages and adults alike. The merchandise business Disney has going on is the size of one of the castles these ladies reside in, making millions upon millions of dollars from dolls, movies, posters, costumes and so on. We’re not even going to mention how much money the parks are bringing in Walt Disney since that’s off the roof.
If you want, you can also take a look at 11 glaring plot holes in Disney’s Tangled since their movies are always full of them.
Back to the princesses, however, and what we care about – how rich are they really? Well, some are actually as poor as they come, but others are worth a lot of money. A while back, Yahoo finance ran an article on how much is every princess actually worth financially, based on their income. The Squander had a different approach and made an estimate of princesses’ wealth based on the approximation of their inheritance as well. We combine both lists to create the accurate ranking of 6 richest Disney princesses of them all.
6. Rapunzel
Fortune: $20 million
It’s not as much as what her royal parents left Rapunzel that makes her rich, but her hair. An estimated 70 some odd feet of hair could be made into a lot of extensions, worth over $13,000. Plus, with that kind of hair she’d certainly get an endorsement from the likes of L’Oreal, with a big contract of an estimated $20 million. She’d also be a bit of a spender, her main focus being art supplies, but also those expensive monthly haircuts.
Rapunzel is the tenth Disney Princess and made her first appearance in 2010’s Tangled. She is born with beautiful, long hair that also happens to be magical. She is kidnaped from her parents by Mother Gothel, a vain old witch that wants to stay young by using the hair’s magic. Rapunzel is kept isolated in a tall tower for 18 years until she leaves on an adventure with a thief named Flynn Rider, aka Eugene.
Since Eugene is a mere thief and certainly no royalty, he doesn’t bring in a lot of cash to the marriage, but that’s unimportant for Rapunzel or their happiness.
5. Cinderella
Fortune: $42,000 + 40 million
According to estimates, Cinderella doesn’t have a lot of money in the bank. It’s only about $40,000 that she’d make from a yearly salary as a maid, which is how she spent her time serving her stepmother and sisters, plus those cool slippers and ball gown she got from the fairy godmother for free.
While she may not get to have a lot of money on her own, the prince she ends up marrying is quite healthy, as you’d expect from royalty. According to an article published by The Squander, Prince Henry Charming has a net worth of $40 million. In order to make their estimate they take into consideration the fact that he is from France and that he’d have about the same worth as Prince William in England.
Cinderella is one of the original Disney Princesses, taking in the second spot after Snow White. The movie with the same name was released back in 1950, continuing to be loved to this day.
4. Belle
Fortune: $1.2 million + 40 million
Belle is one lucky lady with her possessions being worth over $1.2 million. She has plenty of jewelry and that jewelry is worth a pretty penny, so if she sold it all, her bank account would be quite heavy. On the other hand, she’s quite a big spender since she spends half a day reading, which means she needs plenty of books to fix her addiction. She’d probably spend about $2,000 on books over the course of a year, but she has enough money to go around.
This particular princess gets married to Prince Adam, also known as “the Beast.” According to estimates, his net worth is of about $40 million, even if his wealth may have been impacted by the fact that he wasn’t himself for a while.
Belle is the fifth Disney Princess and was first introduced in 1991. The cute book lover seeks adventure outside the pages of her books so once her father is imprisoned by a beast, she sacrifices her freedom for his. Over time, Belle begins to appreciate the beast she lives with while his love for her slowly turns him into a more agreeable individual. By the time the enchanted rose has lost all its petals, Belle falls in love with the beast and breaks the spell he was put under, revealing a handsome prince. Out of the lot, Belle is one of the most acclaimed princesses, since she is considered to be intelligent, a feminist, and courageous, among other things.
3. Ariel
Fortune: $84,000 + $80 million
Ariel may be a beautiful, little, red-headed mermaid, but she’s also one hell of a collector. She lives under the sea, so there’s no need to pay for things like utilities (lucky her), and she has amassed huge stacks of trinkets. Silver candlestick holders, first edition books, antiquities and so much more. Ariel may not have much money, but her fortune was estimated at some $84,583, enough for the 3rd spot on our list of 6 richest Disney princesses of them all.
Our little mermaid gets married to Prince Eric, who rules a kingdom in Denmark. Taking into consideration just how much the Crown Frederick Prince of Denmark inherited, which is about $40 million, as well as the extra $40 million he could add to the coffers if he inherits Atlantica via Ariel.
Aries is the fourth Disney Princess and was featured in “The Little Mermaid,” which was released in 1989. She is the youngest daughter of King Triton and lives in the undersea kingdom of Atlantica. She wants to see what’s on the other side of the shore so she trades her voice for a pair of legs to use to walk among humans.
2. Aurora
Fortune: $3.2 million + $580 million
The Sleeping Beauty protagonist is already a real princess to start things off, so she has a pretty inheritance. Estimates put it at over $167,000 at the time of her falling asleep under the witch’s curse. Since she slept for a full century, a 3 percent interest would bring her over $3 million in fortune. It seems unlikely that she’d end up spending a lot of money since she grew up in a frugal household.
Prince Phillip whom Aurora ends up marrying has a net worth of $580 million. He’s based off the real Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, whose net worth is $30 million. Add up Queen Elizabeth’s net worth of about $550 million, and you get the big numbers.
Aurora is the third Disney Princess and was featured in Sleeping Beauty, which was Disney’s 16th feature film. The beautiful girl is the only child of King Stefan and Queen Leah who make the mistake of not inviting a jealous evil fairy named Maleficent to the child’s christening. The baby is cursed to die on her 16th birthday by pricking her finger on a spinning wheel’s spindle, a curse that is weakened by three other good fairies. Instead of dying, the girl falls asleep until she is kissed by her one true love.
1. Jasmine
Fortune: $25 billion + 2 billion
It’s rather difficult to read the fortune in Jasmine’s accounts since there are so many numbers in there. But then again, she is the daughter of the Sultan of Agrabah, who is bound to leave her a hefty inheritance. $25 billion in total makes her one of the richest “women” in the world. She grew up with the best of the best, so her tastes can be quite expensive too. Taking care of her tiger costs a few thousand every year, but that won’t exactly make a dent in her accounts.
Aladdin, whom Jasmine marries, has a net worth of $2 billion. Since Agrabah has no princes or sultans, Squander went with the Sultan of Brunei whose net worth sits at about $20 billion. Since Aladdin is just a prince, his net worth would be about $30 million. However, he becomes a Sultan so his net worth is raised to $2.03 billion. It’s nothing compared to how much Jasmine has, but still a lot.
Jasmine is the sixth Disney Princess and first appeared in 1992’s Aladdin. She is a bold and confident young lady who doesn’t really follow the rules and hates being told what to do. She wants to be independent so she rebels against the restrictions put down by her father, much like any other teenager would do. She falls in love with Aladdin, who is disguised as a prince at first. One ride on his magic carpet later and she is head over heels for him. Once the whole plot unfolds, she is permitted by her father to wed Aladdin who is actually a pretty poor fellow, living on the streets. Love wins in the end, and we’re ok with that.
While she certainly doesn’t have to work a day in her life, Jasmine is a nice character. She received mixed reviews from critics. On one hand, they love her personality, especially that she is so strong-willed and free, while on the other hand there are those who believe her role in the movie was bland and fell flat.
Either way, she’s one of the beautiful Disney Princesses that has the most success. She is also the one that managed to snag the top spot among the 6 richest Disney Princess of them all.
