Italy has always been one of the major producers of hazelnut, producing over 100,000 tonnes even in the ’70s. After a slight setback, production of hazelnut in Italy is gaining momentum, due to lower cost of production and increased demand for hazelnut. It also helps that the country is a home to Ferrero SpA, the world’s largest individual hazelnut consumer.
