While passing a driving test is considered a rite of passage for many teenagers around the world, in the 6 countries that have the easiest driving tests, obtaining a driver’s license is but a mere inconvenience. This does seem to be worrying as you would expect stringent measures to be employed to allow a person to operate what is basically tons of steel at over 60 miles per hour. It is no wonder then that countries that have extremely lax rules regarding driving tests also have a high rate of deaths due to traffic accidents. Of course, there are other factors in play as well such as the quality of the roads. On the other hand, traffic accidents are low in countries with high-quality roads, which you can discover 11 countries with the best roads in the world.
There are over a million deaths each year due to traffic accidents. However, most teenagers are barely concerned with this fact. They are too blinded by the independence that obtaining the coveted driving license entails. If you are such a teenager and want to know the 6 countries that have the easiest driving tests, this list is definitely for you. We have scoured the internet in order to find out about the countries with the easiest driving tests. We have used a variety of sources such as BBC, LinkedIn, Totally Driving, AngloInfo and the AutoExpress to create our ranking.
6. South Korea
While South Korea has an extremely easy driving test, its citizens need to wait at least till the age of 18, and it will still seem tough when compared with the other tests on this list. In South Korea, prior to 2011, the required number of training hours were reduced to nearly half, down to 13 from 25. Once the training hours are complete, you need to take a simple writing and driving test, before paying around over $400 and obtain the license certification.
5. Egypt
Initially, Egypt’s driving test was nothing but a basic formality in order to obtain a driver’s license. Before 2011, all you had to do was drive 6 meters first and then reverse 6 meters back to the starting point and you would be eligible for your license. However, measures have become slightly more stringent now, though still not very complicated. Now, a written test is required where you need to score at least 8 out of 10 points to pass, followed by a S- track driving test in which the candidate has to initially drive forward and then reverse, followed by a test of the candidate’s parking skills as well.
4. Pakistan
The only reason Pakistan ranks lower than Honduras in the 6 countries with the easiest driving test is because of the fact that they have a driving test, even if its basically for show. Again, there are no minimum training hours required before you can apply for a license. Once you are over the age of 18, all you need to do is head on over to the license office, fill out the form, get approved medically from the doctor (primarily regarding your eyesight) and give a short written test that practically no one fails. All of this is followed by a driver’s test, where you have to drive for around 30 seconds around a bunch of cones, without knocking them over, and you will get your driver’s license.
3. Honduras
Egypt and South Korea’s test will seem extremely technical when compared to Honduras, mainly due to the fact that there is no previous training required and you don’t even have to give a driving test either. All you need to be able to do to claim your Honduran driving license is take a medical test, be over the age of 18 and give an extremely short and easy driving test and voila, you will be the holder of a brand new Honduran license.
2. India
Not willing to be outdone by its neighboring rival, India’s driving test is even easier than Pakistan. Of course, rumors are that you aren’t even bound to give a driving test as you can simply bribe your way in through a 4000-5000 rupees, which are the equivalent of $35-45. However, if you do opt to take the test, all you have to do is to drive in a straight line and then turn left before stopping.
1. Mexico
The winner in the 6 countries with the easiest driving tests is Mexico. While permits are available for the price of $100 at the age of 15, you will be issued with a full license at the age of 18, without any medical, written or driving tests required. This is because Mexico doesn’t believe that a license is a way to certify drivers but instead is a method to regulate them, hence making any tests redundant.
