Birmingham is the most populous city in Alabama but is a relatively smaller city on our list with a little less than two hundred thousand people living in its boundaries. Birmingham houses several smaller banks, large bottling companies, and industrial and insurance firms. The city is part of the Birmingham-Hoover metropolitan area, which has a population of 1.1 million people. Birmingham was set up after the civil war ended and three different towns were merged.
