5. Netherlands

The Netherlands adopted a new law last year to promote greater diversity on the management boards of corporations. The law contains a quota covering appointments to the supervisory boards of companies listed on the stock exchange. It is intended to help ensure that men and women each occupy at least one-third of the seats on every company’s supervisory board.
It has also become compulsory for large public and private limited liability companies to set appropriate and ambitious target ratios for enhancing gender diversity on their management boards and among their senior executives.
4. Denmark

Gender equality is a cornerstone of the Danish welfare state. When it comes to gender equality parameters, the Nordic country has been on the forefront for more than a hundred years.
Women in Denmark generally go out to work and pursue careers while raising a family, assisted by the country’s generous parental leave and tax-subsidized daycare.
Women are well-represented in Denmark’s government. About 40% of the representatives in Denmark’s parliament, the Folketing, are female, and so are many of the country’s ministers.
3. Norway

Norway is among the best countries in the world when it comes to gender equality, including equality at work. In June this year, Norway’s government reached an agreement with the business lobby and unions to force large and medium-sized companies to phase in 40% female representation on their boards within five years.
The plan, which the cabinet says is the first of its kind globally, will initially cover about 8,000 companies next year and expand to encompass about 20,000 companies with more than 30 employees by 2028.
2. New Zealand

New Zealand was the first self-governing country in the world where women won the right to vote and it’s now a leader for gender parity in politics. Today there are more women, people of color, LGBTQ+, and indigenous MPs in the country than ever before.
New Zealand will now require businesses with more than 250 employees to report their gender pay gaps in order to encourage greater equity in the workplace. Around 900 companies will be subject to the reporting once legislation is in place, Minister for Women Jan Tinetti said last month in Wellington.

In 2014, the Swedish government adopted the world’s first explicitly feminist foreign policy, an approach that aimed to address barriers to gender equality and include a gender perspective in all policy development and decision-making. Since then, countries like Canada, France, and Mexico have followed suit. However, the Scandinavian country also became the first-ever to revoke its feminist foreign policy after prime minister Ulf Kristersson came into power last year.
