Japan is an Asian Island country with the world’s fourth-largest economy with a GDP of US$4.2 trillion, and the 12th-largest population. It is a world leader in many domains, and technology — especially computer technology — is one of them. According to Data Pandas report, Japan had a Score of 80, which means it has a strong digital economy, substantial funding for venture capital, highly-developed technological infrastructure, and robust intellectual properties.

When it comes to the computer tech industry, Japan holds a 10% share of the global market, with tech giants like Hitachi Ltd. (TYO: 6501), Toshiba Corporation, and Kyocera Corporation (TYO: 6971) being the leaders nationally and internationally. While the global tech market is getting more competitive, Japan continues to maintain its stronghold in the computer technology domain. Between 2000 and 2020 alone, the country won 103,568 patents in the field— the most patents secured by any country in computer technology.
