South Dakota has a pretty low population density considering it is the 5th least populated state in America and the 16th largest state in the United States. As of 2022, South Dakota has a population of 0.91 million and a land area of 77,047 square miles. In 2021, South Dakota had a GDP of $49 billion.

4. North Dakota

North Dakota produced 431 million barrels of oil in 2021, ranking second among all states in terms of oil production.
