5. Pakistan

Personnel Deployed: 4,337

Pakistan is one of the largest troop contributors to UN peacekeeping in the world. Currently, the Pakistan Armed Forces are serving in seven UN missions, with a majority of them being deployed in the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Darfur region of Sudan. In addition to ensuring peace and security, Pakistani troops have set up several field hospitals and also provide vocational training skills to locals in regions they are stationed in.

4. Rwanda

Personnel Deployed: 5,943

Rwanda was home of one of the UN’s most arduous peacekeeping missions. However, since the end of the conflict in the 1990s, the country has become one of the largest contributors to UN peacekeeping missions in Africa, playing a part in preventing other communities from experiencing a bloodshed of the kind Rwandans did.

3. India

Personnel Deployed: 6,097

India is the third largest troop contributor to UN peacekeeping missions. The country boasts the second largest standing military in the world after China, and currently has more than 6,000 of its personnel deployed in various parts of the world. To date, more than 200,000 Indians have served in 49 UN Peacekeeping Missions, which speaks of India’s commitment to global peace. 143 Indian troops have lost their lives so far in peacekeeping missions, mainly in Africa.

2. Nepal

Personnel Deployed: 6,299

Since Nepal joined the United Nations in 1955, the country has been a part of several peacekeeping missions, first of which was in 1958 in Lebanon. More than 140,000 troops and policemen from the country have served in different parts of the world since then, of which an estimated 1,982 have been women soldiers. Currently, Nepalese personnel are deployed in about 12 ongoing UN peacekeeping missions, most of them in Africa.

Personnel Deployed: 7,279

Bangladesh is the largest contributor of troops to UN peacekeeping missions. The country first deployed its armed men during the 1988 conflict between Iran and Iraq. Over the past three decades, its men and women have served in some of the hardest regions of the world to ensure peace and security. Their service has been widely acclaimed by all member states of the United Nation.
