Since Nepal joined the United Nations in 1955, the country has been a part of several peacekeeping missions, first of which was in 1958 in Lebanon. More than 140,000 troops and policemen from the country have served in different parts of the world since then, of which an estimated 1,982 have been women soldiers. Currently, Nepalese personnel are deployed in about 12 ongoing UN peacekeeping missions, most of them in Africa.
