They are responsible for creating, fine-tuning, and curating prompts that guide AI systems to produce specific, desired responses. As AI becomes increasingly integrated into industries, the need for prompt engineers will grow to ensure that AI models understand and generate contextually relevant and ethical content. Not only will the demand be high, but the compensation for prompt engineers is also likely to be high. In fact, Anthropic PBC recently offered a salary of $300K for this full-time position. It is one of the high paying jobs AI will create.
