2. Hawaii Kona

Insider Monkey’s Score: 6

The Hawaii Kona is the first American origin coffee bean on our list. It is grown in the Kona regions of Hawaii, and history suggests that the Kona bean first made its way to Hawaii from Brazil. Since Hawaii is smaller than major coffee producing countries, the Kona coffee is often short in supply which drives up its price. Building on this, Hawaii also imposed some water restrictions in regions where the Kona coffee bean is grown, adding another factor to producer woes which also include coffee leaf rust.
