4. Customs and Border Protection Officer
Annual salary: $32,844-$39,738
Customs inspectors work for the Department of Homeland Security (a branch of the federal government). Their primary job is to observe imports and exports into and out of the country in order to prevent terrorist activities. Their job is to find illegal substances, weapons and illegal travelers. In order to qualify for the job, a person has to be a U.S. citizen, have a valid driver’s license, be eligible to carry firearms and must pass all required exams (medical exam, polygraph exam, fitness test as well as drug test).
