5. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Philadelphia is the largest city in Pennsylvania. It played a central role in the American Revolution and was the capital of the U.S. before Washington, D.C. It is also one of the most populous cities in America, with more than 1.6 million people living in it. Philadelphia is a business hub in Pennsylvania due to its location and houses large firms such as Comcast. Two million households out of the 2.4 million in the Census Bureau’s survey reported that they had not seen any trash, junk, or litter half a block from their home.

New York is a cultural icon within America and one of the largest cities in the world. Its population of 8.8 million makes it America’s largest city. New York is a financial hub within the U.S., as it houses some of the biggest banks and financial firms in the world. It is also home to the world’s top two largest stock exchanges, the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the NASDAQ exchange. Out of the 7.6 million New York household part of the household survey, 6.3 million did not report any trash close to their dwelling.

San Francisco is an iconic city in California and a technology hub in the U.S. After a recent murder of a billionaire, the city’s safety problems came into the national spotlight, even though police later shared that the murderer was an acquaintance of the victim. San Francisco is also known for its high rents and has also faced an exodus of residents due to this. 1.7 million households were surveyed by the Census Bureau, and 81% reported no litter.

Los Angeles is the second most populous city in the U.S., with a population of almost four million people. It is also America’s cultural hub since it has one of the largest film industries in the world, Hollywood. Los Angeles County is also home to several iconic companies, out of which perhaps the most well known are SpaceX, Disney, Warner Brothers, and Universal Pictures.

Percentage of Households Reporting No Trash: 46%

Miami is Florida’s second largest city, and its trash statistics are simply stunning. Between Los Angeles and Miami, the percentage of households not reporting trash or litter within half a block of their house drops from 81% to 46% – making Miami the dirtiest city in America.
