Insider Monkey ranking: 5

Australian citizenship by conferral (naturalization) requires individuals in the age bracket of 18-59 to undergo both a written test and an interview, while others need only pass the interview. The written test assesses basic English language knowledge, an understanding of being an Australian, Australian knowledge, responsibilities and privileges of citizenship, and an understanding and commitment to Australian values such as freedom, respect, and equality.

The test, lasting for 45 minutes, consists of 20 multiple-choice questions and five Australian-value questions. Administered on computers and tablets, the result is announced immediately after completing the test. To pass, all five Australian-value questions must be answered correctly, and an overall score of 75% must be achieved. In case of failure, the test can be retaken up to three times, after which the application will be denied.
