5. Republic of Indonesia
Total Population of Ages 0-24: 113.9 million
The Republic of Indonesia is an Asian and Oceanic country that is the fourth most populous country in the world because of its 277 million population. It is also quite prosperous due to a large economy of $1.3 trillion, but the large population leaves Indonesia with a low GDP per capita of $5,016. Indonesia has a diversified economy, with natural resources, agricultural products, and manufactured goods each playing their part in the country’s foreign exchange earnings.
4. Islamic Republic of Pakistan
Total Population of Ages 0-24: 132.3 million
The Islamic Republic of Pakistan is another populous Asian country. Estimates place its population at 249 million, but Pakistan has one of the lowest GDP per capita in the world at $1,658. In terms of area, Pakistan is the 23rd largest country in the world and it features all kinds of terrain, from deserts, to snow capped peaks, and even beaches. These days, the country has been facing its biggest economic crisis in history, with a last minute bailout program from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in July saving the nuclear armed nation from what experts had predicted was an economic default where Pakistan would have failed to meet its debt repayments.
3. Federal Republic of Nigeria
Total Population of Ages 0-24: 134.1 million
The Federal Republic of Nigeria is one of Africa’s largest economies. It has a GDP of $574 billion, which is fueled nearly in its entirety by crude oil and natural gas exports. Despite having some of the largest oil reserves in the world, Nigeria has struggled to develop itself particularly due to high levels of conflict and corruption that have ravaged the country. In population terms, 230 million live in its borders, which is lower than Pakistan. However, Nigeria has more younger people and the majority of its population lives in rural areas.
2. People’s Republic of China
Total Population of Ages 0-24: 412.7 million
The People’s Republic of China is the second most populous country in the world with a population of a whopping 1.4 billion people. However, lower birth rates have pushed China’s population growth downwards, and historically the growth rate has stood at 0.53%. Famous for its one child policy, China slowly moved to two children, then three children, and then ended up abandoning the requirement completely as it struggled with low growth rates.
1. Republic of India
Total Population of Ages 0-24: 616.2 million
The Republic of India is the newly crowned most populous country in the world. Its latest population estimates sit at 1.42 billion, only 100 million people higher than China. However, India has 50% more young people than China. The country made the news recently as it launched a lunar lander.
