In Japan, stomach cancer has a significant financial impact; a 2013 study estimated that the entire cost of the disease in 2008 was 1,114.2 billion yen, primarily due to mortality costs.

Mongolia is also said to be the country that has most stomach cancer. More than 80% of cases are discovered at an advanced stage, which results in worse outcomes.
