5. State of Palestine

The State of Palestine is a Western Asian state. It has been the source of constant conflict for decades. Palestine has a mere $19.8 billion GDP in real terms and a low per capita income of $3,517. Additionally, Palestine’s Gaza Strip has some of the worst living conditions in the world, with poor water infrastructure and a constant blockade by its neighbors. As a result, it’s unsurprising that the State of Palestine ranks fifth on our list of the world’s most depressed countries.

The Portuguese Republic, commonly known as Portugal, is a prosperous European country. It has a $460 billion economy and a GDP per capita of $44,707. Portugal is also one of the most peaceful and stable countries in the world and has seen little conflict over the course of the years. It makes and sells a wide variety of products on the global market to earn foreign exchange, such as cars, car parts, radio equipment, textiles, and agricultural goods.

Greece is another historic country on our list. Thought by many to be the cradle of modern day Western civilization due to the principles of self governance developed through democracy, Greece has a $418 billion GDP and the first traces of civilization that dates back hundreds of thousands of years ago. However, it went into a prolonged debt crisis in the previous decade fueled by the Great Recession and unsustainable levels of debt.
