Turkey is one of the five countries that consume a high number of calories per day with an average Turkish consuming at least 3,762 calories per day. A study of high school and university students in Tekirdağ found that 34.6% of female respondents and 39.2% of male respondents chose fast food over home-cooked meals. The most popular fast food choices were hamburgers (31.3%) and pizza (22.1%). The study also found that 9.6% of females and 14.7% of males consume fast food daily, while 33.3% of females and 44% of males have it a few times per week.

4. Belgium 

Daily Calorie Consumption per Capita: 3,824 

Belgium stands among the countries with the highest daily calorie consumption in the world with an average person consuming 3,824 calories a day. The most consumed calories in Belgium come from nutrient-poor and energy-dense foods, which contribute to more than one-third of the total energy intake instead of the recommended maximum of 10%.

3. Ireland 

Daily Calorie Consumption per Capita: 3,851 

Ireland stands among the three countries that consume a high number of calories per day with an average person in Ireland consuming at least 3,851 calories a day. Men are more likely to be overweight than women in Ireland, with 61% of males classified as overweight compared to 49% of females. The older the age group, the higher the share of overweight people, except individuals aged 75 and over. The highest rate of obesity in Ireland (32%) was recorded in the 65-74 age cohort.

The United States is the second most calorie consuming country in the world with an average American consuming at least 3,868 calories a day. In the U.S., men consume more calories on average than women. The average American adult woman needs between 1,800 and 2,400 calories per day, while the average American adult man needs between 2,400 and 3,000. Researchers have found that women are more likely to consume soda or other sugar-sweetened beverages and fast food during young adulthood than in later periods of adulthood. As shown in a study, 62.7% of young women ate fast foods and 61.0% consumed soft drinks or soda that contain sugar at least once a week.

Bahrain tops the list for being the country that eats the most food with an average person in Bahrain consuming at least 4,012 calories a day. A study found that about 14.4% of Bahraini adolescents ate fast food daily, while 29% consumed it rarely. Males were more likely to eat fast food outside their homes, while females preferred to eat fast food inside their homes.
