Remarkably, between July 2020 and June 2021, the US emerged as the primary target for cyber-attacks worldwide, accounting for 46% of all attacks. The financial toll on US citizens from cyber-related crimes in 2021 was substantial, totaling $6.9 billion. Specific categories of cybercrime included romance scams amounting to $956 million, investment scams reaching $1.4 billion, and business email compromise leading to losses of $2.39 billion. For businesses in the US, ransomware poses a grave threat to cybersecurity, with 60% of organizations experiencing data encryption in successful ransomware attacks. The expenses incurred to address and rectify these attacks averaged around $1.08 million in 2021. Interestingly, this cost showed a notable decrease of 49% from the previous year, when it stood at $2.09 million in 2020.
