5 Countries with Most Alcohol Deaths

2. Lesotho

Alcohol Deaths per 100,000 People: 103.5

Lesotho is among the countries with the highest burden of years of life lost due to alcohol in the world. While more than 80% of the country’s adult population lives free from alcohol use, those who consume alcohol do so in heavy amounts and high-risk patterns.

During the presentation of the 2020 finance law, the Parliament of Lesotho introduced a tax on alcohol and tobacco. The two products are now taxed at 15% and 30% respectively –  an extreme decision in the kingdom which acts as a brewery for South Africa.
