Surprisingly topping the list of 20 countries with free healthcare is India, home to a multi-payer universal healthcare model. Funded through public and private funds, public hospitals are free for all residents in India but in some places, symbolic payments are taken. While the healthcare system still has a long way to go to be on par with those in developed countries, India has also started implementing technology to give its 1.4 billion residents healthcare access. However, because of the vastness of the country and a large percentage of its population living in rural areas, millions still struggle to get the requisite access.
