5 Countries that Export the Most Tobacco in the World

2. Zimbabwe

Tobacco Exports in 2022: $926,082,716

Zimbabwe is the Largest Exporter of Tobacco in Africa, and the country is aiming to turn tobacco farming into a $5 billion industry by 2025. However, the sector has had a devastating impact on the country’s environment and around 60,000 hectares of forests are burnt every year to farm tobacco in Zimbabwe due to a lack of available farmland.

China has been integral to Zimbabwe’s tobacco boom by establishing a grower contract system run by the state-owned China National Tobacco Corporation. So naturally, the lion’s share of Zimbabwe’s tobacco exports are headed to China.
