Rum accounts for 20% of the spirits market in Spain, with over 4 million cases of the spirit sold in the country each year.

Spain also witnessed a 23.5% increase in its rum exports in 2022, when compared to the previous year.

4. Netherlands

Total Rum Exports in 2022: $137.42 million

Rum is the national beverage of the Dominican Republic and there are more than 15 distilleries producing the spirit in the Caribbean country. A small proportion of the rum produced is reserved for export, while 90% is consumed domestically.

Ron Barceló is the best Dominican rum and the most exported dark rum in the world, made from 100% sugar cane juice from the distillery’s own cane fields. Mostly owned by the Spanish spirits company Grupo Varma, Ron Barceló is a carbon neutral brand, certified in 2019 by the SGS Group for both the life cycle of their products and the organization.

For the first time since the eighteenth century, you can once again find hundreds of distilleries producing rum across the United States.

The American craft rum industry has experienced significant growth as more and more people discover these artisanal distillers’ unique and high-quality offerings. As a result, the American rum exports also witnessed a 21.8% YoY growth in 2022.

1. Italy
