5. Germany

Beer Consumption per Capita: 92.4L

Germany is the top beer producing country in the EU, with 7.6 billion liters produced in 2022, equivalent to over 22% of the entire EU production. Beer is so important in German culture that the country even came up with its own purity law 500 years ago. 

Germany sold 8.8 billion liters of beer in 2022, but sales of the beverage still haven’t fully recovered from the pandemic and Germans bought 5% less beer last year as compared to 2019. The German Brewers Federation expects 2023 to be a challenging year, due to high costs for raw materials, energy, intermediate products, and personnel.

In recent years, Poland has become widely known to beer enthusiasts due to its several excellent microbreweries that produce quality beers at very affordable prices. Especially in the bigger cities, beer tourists can visit a bunch of brewery taprooms and craft beer pubs that focus specifically on Polish products. The most popular Polish beers are Żywiec, Okocim, Tyskie and Żubr.

In 2022, Poland imported 116.44 thousand metric tons of beer, a record high over the last 11 years. 

2. Austria
