5. Dominus Estate Christian Moueix 2014

Insider Monkey Score: 5

Price: $249.99

A vivid expression of its unique site, Dominus is a profound and powerful wine, exemplifying purity. The 2014 Dominus, which is 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 7% Petit Verdot really struts its stuff. This expression is a lesson in understated power, with supple tannins, dancing acidity, and complexity that coats every part of the mouth.

Located at the foothills of the Mayacamas, the Dominus Estate vineyard was planted in 1838 and continues to evolve under the stewardship of Christian Moueix. The iconic winery is responsible for producing one of the finest Bordeaux style wines in California.

4. Krug Grande Cuvée 171ème Édition NV

Insider Monkey Score: 5

Price: $249.99

Krug Grande Cuvée 171ème Édition is a blend of 131 wines from 12 different years, the youngest of which is from 2015, while the oldest dates back to 2000. A stay of around seven years in Krug’s cellars gives this Édition its remarkable expression and elegance. The final composition of this bottle is 45% Pinot Noir, 37% Chardonnay, and 18% Meunier.

The Krug maison, which is synonymous with the elegance and charm of sparkling wines, is one of the most important and well-known Champagne houses in the world. Since their inception in 1843, Krug Grande Cuvée has been their signature wine, and the most important offering they produce each year.

Although this Grande Cuvée is one of the most expensive wines in our list, it is definitely worth the money!

3. Vieux Château Certan 2014

Insider Monkey Score: 5

Price: $219

One of the unquestioned stars of the vintage, the 2014 Vieux Château Certan soars out of the glass with aromatic intensity, bright acids, and finely sculpted fruit. A classic blend of 80% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine is unashamedly classic in style, fanning out towards the mineral-rich finish with great frisson and energy. A cellar without the 2014 Vieux Château Certan would be a great pity.

Owned by the Thienpont family, Vieux Château Certan is located on the right bank of the Bordeaux region in France, and boasts an annual production of around 5,000 cases.

2. Marchesi Antinori Tignanello 2015

Insider Monkey Score: 6

Price: $213

Tignanello was the first Sangiovese to be aged in barriques, the first contemporary red wine blended with untraditional varieties (specifically Cabernet) and one of the first red wines in the Chianti Classico region that didn’t use white grapes. The 2015 is an expression that opens, like a fully bloomed rose, right in front of you. This vintage will surely flesh out and gain focus with more bottle age, but one of the best qualities of the 2015 is just how beautiful the wine tastes also straight out of the gate.

The Antinori family has been committed to the art of winemaking since 1385, producing some of the Best Rated Wines in the World. The Marchesi Antinori group also acquired the Napa Valley-based Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars last year.

1. Château Pichon-Longueville Baron 2001

Insider Monkey Score: 7

Price: $203

A very successful effort for this vintage in the Medoc, this deep ruby/purple-colored Pauillac exhibits class/nobility/breed along with black currant liqueur, licorice, and incense notes. Composed of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot, this Bordeaux vintage was aged for a total of 18 months in two different barrels.

The wines of Château Pichon Baron embody the purest expression of Pauillac, harmoniously combining finesse and elegance, as well as purity and depth.
