3. First They Killed My Father (2017)

The movie is set during the time period of the Vietnam War in the year 1975. Much of the fighting had made its way into Cambodia as Vietnamese forces seek refuge in the neighboring country. This resulted in the United States bombing Cambodia as well. As Communist forces drew near, local families left the city as refugees. One such family was taken prisoner and was taken to a camp where they were forced to work under inhumane conditions. A seven-year-old girl, Loung Ung, is separated from her family and is forced to train as a child soldier. The movie follows her journey further and shows the cruelty of war on the people of neighboring countries and innocent children. First They Killed My Father is available to be streamed or downloaded on Netflix in the United States.
