It is one of the four townships in the state with less than one hundred people and the smallest municipality in terms of population. Walpack also votes Republican in both gubernatorial and Presidential Elections, and it shares its schools with Sandyston. It is also one of the oldest regions in the U.S., since it was incorporated in 1798.
