No statistical analysis is required to demonstrate why Gaza is the world’s most deadly city now. Armed combat between Israel and Palestinian militant groups led by Hamas began in October 2023, with most of the fighting occurring in and around the Gaza Strip. It started when militants from Hamas unexpectedly attacked southern Israel from the Gaza Strip. Following the evacuation of Hamas terrorists from their territory, the Israeli forces began a massive aerial bombardment of the Gaza Strip on October 27. Shortly after, they launched a massive ground invasion. According to the official statistic, the number of Palestinians killed is a minimum of 32,333, including over 13,000 kids, 8,400 females, and at least 8,663 minors, among the over 74,694 injured individuals. Over 8,000 people are missing. The World Bank report from February 2024, which projects that 1.2 million people in Gaza are homeless because of damaged and destroyed residential buildings, provides an estimate of the number of Gazans whose dwellings are untenable. It is the reason why we put Gaza City in first place on our list of the most dangerous cities in the world.
