According to Mayor Tishaura Jones and St. Louis Metropolitan Police Chief Robert Tracy, this figure is among the “significant improvements” made in public safety last year. Since last year, regional political leaders, police chiefs, and others have gathered to create the framework for a plan that they claim will result in at least a 10% drop in homicides and shootings each year. However, it will still be one of the US cities with highest homicide rates in 2024.
