San Francisco had nine reported killings in the first three months of 2024, compared to 13 in the same period in 2023, according to AH Datalytics, a criminal justice consulting business. That is a 31% drop. San Francisco had 54 reported killings in 2023. According to AH Datalytics, homicide rates in 204 cities fell by about 20% in the first three months of 2024 compared to the same period last year. These initiatives are the result of the work of local law enforcement, including the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD), the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office, and their state and federal counterparts at the California Highway Patrol, California National Guard, and the Drug Enforcement Agency. The San Francisco District Attorney’s Office and the United States Attorney’s Office continue to pursue drug-related prosecutions aggressively.
