From 2006 to 2023, the City of Buffalo saw 948 homicides, with an average of 53 each year. In 2023, the City of Buffalo recorded 38 homicides, which puts it on the list of US cities with highest homicide rates in 2024. The monthly data demonstrate a significant decrease in the height of those peaks in criminal activity from 2006 to the present. For example, in July 2014, there were 268 burglaries; in July 2023, there were 133 burglaries, a 50% decrease.
