Vehicle emissions, fumes from factories and brick kilns, and dust from many different places are the major sources of pollution in Bangladesh. The entire population of Bangladesh, which amounts to 161 million individuals, resides in regions characterized by an annual average particulate pollution level that is above both the World Health Organization’s guidelines and the country’s own national threshold. In each of the nation’s 64 districts, the levels of particle pollution exceed the World Health Organization’s guidelines by a minimum of fourfold. The divisions of Dhaka and Khulna, encompassing the country’s largest and third-largest cities, respectively, are identified as the most heavily polluted regions in the country. In these locations, the average citizen is subjected to pollution levels that exceed the World Health Organization’s recommended guidelines by more than eightfold. Consequently, this heightened exposure to pollution is estimated to reduce life expectancy by around eight years.
