Recent U.S. Census Bureau estimates reveal that poverty rates in Texas are at their lowest point in over a decade, yet this is not the case in Hispanic-dominated border towns. Children of Hispanic or African descent are three times more likely to be poor in Texas than children of white families, according to the research. El Paso and other cities in Texas with significant Hispanic populations have among the state’s lowest per capita incomes. The income disparity between white and Asian Texans and Hispanic and black Texans is in the tens of thousands of dollars. Overall poverty and child poverty in the state have hit their lowest levels in almost a decade, according to the latest available data. With the overwhelming disparity of poverty among other states, El Paso easily makes it one of the dumbest cities to live in the USA.
