LGBT rights in the United States are among the highest globally, with significant changes in public opinion and jurisprudence since the late 1980s. The decriminalization of same-sex sexual activity started in 1961, and in 2003, all remaining laws against it were invalidated through Lawrence v. Texas. In 2004, same-sex marriage was first offered in Massachusetts, and in 2015, Obergefell v. Hodges mandated that all states must recognize same-sex marriage. Many states and cities provide explicit protections against discrimination in employment, housing, and access to public accommodations for LGBT Americans. The first place on list of the countries with the biggest LGBTQ+ population is primarily attributed to its sizable LGBTQ+ population, but it’s worth noting that this country has also made significant strides in advancing human rights over the past decades.
