25 Best States For Anesthesiologists

Let’s take a little rest and look at the 25 best states for anesthesiologists. I am sure we will be refreshed when we discover the best states based on the number of salary, available jobs and jobs conditions.

I remember being wheeled into the surgery room. Even though I was five I was feeling pretty relaxed–or perhaps that was because I was five. The anesthesiologist was so nice! First, they practiced on my stuffed dog. Then they let me try. I remember the anesthesia smelled like cherry smoke. So thanks pediatric anesthesiologists for being so cool, five-year-olds of the world really appreciate you.

Anesthesiologists are important parts of a surgical team who assist surgeons before, during and after surgery in order to make sure the patient is fit and ready for surgery. Of course, they also prep and monitor the anesthesia, which in most cases helps keep patients comfortable and healthy. Anesthetics are medical drugs which prevent patients from feeling any pain during the procedure and the anesthesiologist is the one who allows this to happen under their watchful eye. Anesthesia controls nerves, heartbeats, breathing and blood pressure and can make you fall asleep.

According to MyPlan, the multitasking day of the anesthesiologist includes: first examining the patient and going through whole medical history in order to conclude if the patient is fit for receiving anesthesia and to undergo surgery. That includes medical exams, X-ray, blood analysis. Then they determine the type and the amount of anesthesia that the patient is going to receive before the surgery.

There are few types of anesthesia:

1. Local- local anesthesia is used for smaller procedures in order to numb only the part of the body which is under the procedure.

2. Regional- is for numbing the whole area of the body. The patient might also get the medicine to fall asleep, but is not always necessary. There is peripheral – for arms, hands, legs, face, and epidural which is given near spine and blocks feelings from stomach, hips, and legs.

3. General- affects both brain and the whole body. The patient is unconscious and might not remember anything. The patient can get it intravenously or by breathing.

During the surgery, anesthesiologist needs to keep his eyes on the monitor to watch the vital signs of the patient and report even the slightest changes, as well as look at the effect of the anesthetics overall. After the surgery, he or she controls the pain medications that patient receives and runs the tests to check the patient’s condition. Also,  they are in charge of transferring the patients from shock-rooms or intensive care to other sections.

Because of all the responsibility they have, anesthesiologists represent one of the highest-paid medical staff in whole hospital collective.

According to the US News, the anesthesiologist job is ranked first of twenty-five in best paying jobs, 13th in best health care jobs and 17th in 100 best jobs.
