In this article, we will go over the 25 best conservative email newsletters to subscribe to. Before listing and ranking conservative newsletters, let’s have a look at conservatism in the United States.
Conservatism is a political ideology that values traditional institutions and practices and generally, opposes change and innovation. Conservatives believe in an organic conception of society and favor institutions that have evolved gradually and manifest stability. They believe that the government should serve people rather than the other way around. So, conservatives oppose any dramatic changes to the society brought about by governments.
The conservative ideology began taking a distinct form in reaction to the French Revolution. Although he never used the word conservatism himself, Edmund Burke, a British Parliamentarian and political writer, is generally acknowledged as the father of conservatism. His book ‘Reflections on the Revolution in France’ is an expression of a conservative’s rejection of the French Revolution.
Today conservatism is the most popular political ideology in the United States. Conservative politics in the United States involves advocating for a less regulated economy and upholding the ideologies in the Declaration of Independence. As we saw in our piece about the most conservative states in the US, most Republicans are conservatives (72%). Up until recently, half of Democrats were conservatives too. However, according to Gallup, in 2022, there has been a 4% increase in politically liberal Democrats. Still, as of 2022, nearly 36% of Americans identify themselves as conservatives. Coming in at a close second, 35% of Americans identify themselves as moderates.
While the recent uptick of 4% in liberalism might give the impression that conservatism is on a decline in the United States, it is not so. First, as pointed out by the Gallup report itself, the four-point uptick in liberal identification among Democrats was not enough to move the U.S. rate because of the decline in the Democrat population in the country. Secondly, social conservatism, typically considered the extreme form of conservatism, is on the rise in the country. It is described as having a conservative stance on socio-cultural issues such as abortion, same-sex marriage, and school. According to a 2023 Gallup report, 38% of Americans say that they are very conservative or conservative on social issues. In 2022, the percentage of such people was 33%. This also shows that social conservatism is at a decade high in the country. The last time this many Americans said that they were socially conservative was in 2012.
Conservative values have a significant impact on corporate America. Historically, companies in the country tend to align with the Republican party because of its comparatively conservative values on fiscal policies. In fact, according to a study by professors at Harvard Law School and Tel Aviv University, CEOs of S&P 1500 companies tend to donate more money to Republicans during election cycles as opposed to Democrats. The energy industry has the strongest tilt toward Republicans, according to the study. Over its eighteen-year review period, CEOs donated twice as much to Republicans as opposed to Democrats.
One of the most conservative companies in the United States is Peabody Energy Corporation (NYSE:BTU). In 2022, it allocated 85.33% of its total political donations to the Republican Party. A report by the Guardian in 2016 also alleged that Peabody Energy Corporation (NYSE:BTU) provided funding to approximately two dozen right-leaning groups that were promoting skepticism regarding the connection between human activity and climate change.
With that backdrop, let’s look at the 25 best conservative email newsletters to subscribe to.
Methodology
To curate our list of the 25 best conservative email newsletters to subscribe to, we used a consensus method. We looked at 5 (1,2,3,4,5) sources that listed and ranked online conservative publications. We noted these down along with the rank of each publication on our source.
Then we assigned Insider Monkey Score to each publication according to its frequency on our source. For example, if publication A occurred 2 times and publication B occurred 3 times on our sources, the former got an Insider Monkey Score of 2 while the latter got an Insider Monkey Score of 3.
As a tie-breaker, we used the sum of ranking. The higher this sum of ranking, the lower the publication ranks on our list. For example, if A and B have the same Insider Monkey Score but B’s sum of ranking is 9 while A’s sum of ranking is 8, A ranks higher.
Finally, we checked manually whether these publications issued email newsletters or not. Our list only includes the ones that issue newsletters through Email. It is also essential to note that our list ranks the issuing publications, not the individual newsletters.
