Before the 19th century this hotel that ranks 6th on our list of oldest hotels in the world that still exist was known only as the Angel, founded by the Knights Templar. Today it belongs to Ashdale Hotels. The hotel had hosted many notable visitors, like King John (in 1213), Richard III (in 1483) and Oliver Cromwell during the Civil War in the 17th century.
