20 Most Trusted Brands In The US

In this article, we will take a look at the 20 most trusted brands in the US. If you want to skip our discussion on the factors influencing consumer trust levels, you can go directly to the 5 Most Trusted Brands In The US.

Brands win the trust of their buyers based on several parameters. The most important of these are product quality and customer experience. This trust is further reinforced by how a company addresses complaints and its commitment to customer service. Over time, ethical considerations such as sustainable practices and fair staff treatment have also become influential factors shaping customer perceptions of brands. Building and maintaining trust is crucial for brands to enhance marketing efficiency and minimize customer turnover. In a 2021 report on customer trust and its advantages for brands, Deloitte identifies four pillars that form a brand’s trust components. These pillars are capability, reliability, humanity, and transparency. While many brands excel in the first two pillars, categorized as competency components, some fall short in the last two, which are the intent components. Aligning all four components towards cultivating customer trust enables companies to avoid being labeled as one of the Most Hated Brands in the World.

Deloitte’s report shows that over 68% of consumers spend more on their most trusted brands compared to other brands. This means that customers will recommend a trusted brand 5.4x more often and are 2.3x more likely to try a new product launched by a trusted brand, highlighting the substantial impact of building brand trust on sales, customer loyalty, and word-of-mouth promotion. It’s worth noting that there are generational differences in brand trust, with the most trusted brands being less favored by Generation Z compared to other demographic age groups.

Most companies have made it to the list of the most trusted brands in the US by delivering consistent value to their customers over time. Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) serves as an example, as its customers trust the company for its dependable service and timely delivery, with the assurance that any issues will be resolved through Amazon’s customer service. Apart from Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN), technology giants such as Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:MSFT) and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) are also among the top 10 most trusted brands in the technology sector. However, when comparing across sectors, these technology companies tend to rank lower, with most fast-moving consumer goods brands taking the lead.

Here’s what Hayden Capital said about Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) in its Q3 2023 investor letter:

“Even Berkshire Hathaway’s most famous investment of the last decade – Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) – was based on a similar set up. When Berkshire invested in 2016, Apple’s subscription revenues were just starting to cross ~10% of total revenues. Today, that figure is ~25%.

While operating income has grown +90% from 2016 to 2023, the valuation multiple itself has expanded by ~300%, from ~6x EV/EBIT to ~24x EV/EBIT today.

Investors have evolved their perception of Apple’s products – from that of a “fad” hardware company at risk of competition, to that of a “consumer staple”, a necessary part of a household’s budget…” (Click here to read the full text)
