20 Most Sustainable Cities in the World

In this article, we will look at the 20 Most Sustainable Cities in the World. You can skip our detailed discussion and see the 5 Most Sustainable Cities in the World.

Global Sustainable Development Progress

According to the latest UN report, the world is falling behind on the progress towards the sustainable development goals (SDG). Only 17% of the SDG targets are on track to be met by 2030, with around 50% exhibiting moderate progress. More than one-third of the SDG targets have regressed. This can be attributed to many factors including the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, escalating geopolitical tensions, and deteriorating climate. These crises have a disproportionate effect on developing countries due to systematic incompetence.

Poverty and hunger are still among the biggest global challenges which are further escalated by the climate crisis. 23 million more people are now facing extreme property and over 100 million additional people are experiencing hunger, compared to pre-pandemic levels. The pandemic severely impacted global health progress, erasing the growth of nearly a decade of advancement towards life expectancy. Literacy also remains a major concern among developing countries. These issues are witnessing an alarming rise calling for an urgency to address them. Conflicts around the world are only accelerating the impacts of the global humanitarian crisis, resulting in a record 120 million forcibly displaced individuals.

The climate crisis is one of the biggest barriers inhibiting the progress towards SDGs. 2023 was recorded as the warmest year with global temperatures reaching nearly the critical limits of the Paris Agreement. Greenhouse gas emissions are on the rise leading to a surge in environmental degradation. Developing countries are more prone to its consequences compared to advanced economies. The disparities among the developing and advanced countries are further highlighted by a $4 trillion annual investment gap in SDG financing for developing economies.

Cities- An Epicenter of the Climate Crisis

According to the 2024 Sustainable Cities Report by Arcadis, cities are at the epicenter of the climate crisis. The rise in extreme weather events requires urban centers to prioritize disaster resilience while reducing their carbon footprint. European cities lead the world with progress in sustainable mobility, clean air, and waste management. For example, Oslo has an air quality index of 98, higher than the European average. Moreover, the city is on track to reach its emission-free goal by 2030 driven by its commitment to renewable energy. German cities are also making strides with an average renewable energy use of 70.80% across the four German metropolises, Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich, and Hamburg, higher than the regional average.

The global progress of cities toward sustainability exhibits a mixed outlook with European cities leading in the environment and renewable energy area while other regions show variable levels of progress. For instance, Los Angeles stands out as a leader in the North American region, however, the other cities face a surge in climate risks. Asia also lags in its progress toward sustainability metrics such as air pollution and renewable energy. Africa faces major humanitarian and climate crises, with little to no progress toward sustainable measures. However, cities in Africa such as Kinshasa exhibit potential in renewable energy like hydropower.

For cities to achieve sustainable development goals, increased investment and collaboration is required. Transition to clean energy is a must to progress forward while preserving the environment and meeting the goals set for countries as a result of the Paris Agreement. Public and private partnerships are pertinent to overcoming obstacles in sustainable progress and global development worldwide.

Decarbonization of the Power Sector

The power sector contributes the highest toward GHG emissions, polluting the environment. Renewable energy sources provide an alternative to traditional energy sources, avoiding a major chunk of GHG emissions and particle pollution from fossil fuel energy generation. Constellation Energy (NASDAQ:CEG) is one of the largest producers of clean energy, powering more than 16 million households and businesses across the US through its fleet of nuclear, hydro, wind, and solar generation facilities. The company has a capacity of 32,400 megawatts and is responsible for supplying 10% of the total clean energy on the grid in the US.

Constellation Energy (NASDAQ:CEG) stands to benefit from AI-driven electricity demand thanks to its nuclear energy generation assets. Data center operators are looking for cleaner power sources that will help them operate for 24 hours and are signing power purchase deals with companies like Constellation Energy. The group already has an active contract with Microsoft for nuclear energy for data centers.

The global renewable energy leader is also seeking 20-year license renewals for 2 nuclear plants. The group has the largest carbon-free nuclear fleet in the US, with a capacity factor of 94%. The Biden Administration is also incentivizing nuclear power operators and recently announced measures to help them cut costs and ramp up plant construction.

AI-driven electricity demand, and particularly clean energy demand, provides a huge opportunity for companies like Constellation Energy (NASDAQ:CEG). The stock has gained 78% over the past 12 months and analysts’ 1-year median price target implies a further upside of 21%.

ClearBridge Global Infrastructure Value Strategy mentioned the following about Constellation Energy Corporation (NASDAQ:CEG) in its Q1 2024 investor letter:

“On a regional basis, the U.S. and Canada was the top contributor for quarter, with U.S. electric utility Constellation Energy Corporation (NASDAQ:CEG) and U.S. rail operator CSX the lead performers. Constellation Energy is primarily a nuclear generation company and is the largest producer of carbon-free electricity in the U.S., serving states including New York, Illinois, Maryland, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The company’s combined generation capacity is more than 32 GW and 90% of annual output is carbon free. Constellation has been a beneficiary of AI and subsequent power demand as its 24/7 base load nuclear generation can get premium contracts.”

While we acknowledge the potential of CEG as an investment, our conviction lies in the belief that some AI stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns, and doing so within a shorter time frame. AI, Tariffs, Nuclear Power: One Undervalued Stock Connects ALL the Dots (Before It Explodes!)

Artificial intelligence is the greatest investment opportunity of our lifetime. The time to invest in groundbreaking AI is now, and this stock is a steal!

AI is eating the world—and the machines behind it are ravenous.

Each ChatGPT query, each model update, each robotic breakthrough consumes massive amounts of energy. In fact, AI is already pushing global power grids to the brink.

Wall Street is pouring hundreds of billions into artificial intelligence—training smarter chatbots, automating industries, and building the digital future. But there’s one urgent question few are asking:

Where will all of that energy come from?

AI is the most electricity-hungry technology ever invented. Each data center powering large language models like ChatGPT consumes as much energy as a small city. And it’s about to get worse.

Even Sam Altman, the founder of OpenAI, issued a stark warning:

“The future of AI depends on an energy breakthrough.”

Elon Musk was even more blunt:

“AI will run out of electricity by next year.”

As the world chases faster, smarter machines, a hidden crisis is emerging behind the scenes. Power grids are strained. Electricity prices are rising. Utilities are scrambling to expand capacity.

And that’s where the real opportunity lies…

One little-known company—almost entirely overlooked by most AI investors—could be the ultimate backdoor play. It’s not a chipmaker. It’s not a cloud platform. But it might be the most important AI stock in the US owns critical energy infrastructure assets positioned to feed the coming AI energy spike.

As demand from AI data centers explodes, this company is gearing up to profit from the most valuable commodity in the digital age: electricity.

The “Toll Booth” Operator of the AI Energy Boom

  • It owns critical nuclear energy infrastructure assets, positioning it at the heart of America’s next-generation power strategy.
  • It’s one of the only global companies capable of executing large-scale, complex EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) projects across oil, gas, renewable fuels, and industrial infrastructure.
  • It plays a pivotal role in U.S. LNG exportation—a sector about to explode under President Trump’s renewed “America First” energy doctrine.

Trump has made it clear: Europe and U.S. allies must buy American LNG.

And our company sits in the toll booth—collecting fees on every drop exported.

But that’s not all…

As Trump’s proposed tariffs push American manufacturers to bring their operations back home, this company will be first in line to rebuild, retrofit, and reengineer those facilities.

AI. Energy. Tariffs. Onshoring. This One Company Ties It All Together.

While the world is distracted by flashy AI tickers, a few smart investors are quietly scooping up shares of the one company powering it all from behind the scenes.

AI needs energy. Energy needs infrastructure.

And infrastructure needs a builder with experience, scale, and execution.

This company has its finger in every pie—and Wall Street is just starting to notice.

Wall Street is noticing this company also because it is quietly riding all of these tailwinds—without the sky-high valuation.

While most energy and utility firms are buried under mountains of debt and coughing up hefty interest payments just to appease bondholders…

This company is completely debt-free.

In fact, it’s sitting on a war chest of cash—equal to nearly one-third of its entire market cap.

It also owns a huge equity stake in another red-hot AI play, giving investors indirect exposure to multiple AI growth engines without paying a premium.

And here’s what the smart money has started whispering…

The Hedge Fund Secret That’s Starting to Leak Out

This stock is so off-the-radar, so absurdly undervalued, that some of the most secretive hedge fund managers in the world have begun pitching it at closed-door investment summits.

They’re sharing it quietly, away from the cameras, to rooms full of ultra-wealthy clients.

Why? Because excluding cash and investments, this company is trading at less than 7 times earnings.

And that’s for a business tied to:

  • The AI infrastructure supercycle
  • The onshoring boom driven by Trump-era tariffs
  • A surge in U.S. LNG exports
  • And a unique footprint in nuclear energy—the future of clean, reliable power

You simply won’t find another AI and energy stock this cheap… with this much upside.

This isn’t a hype stock. It’s not riding on hope.

It’s delivering real cash flows, owns critical infrastructure, and holds stakes in other major growth stories.

This is your chance to get in before the rockets take off!

Disruption is the New Name of the Game: Let’s face it, complacency breeds stagnation.

AI is the ultimate disruptor, and it’s shaking the foundations of traditional industries.

The companies that embrace AI will thrive, while the dinosaurs clinging to outdated methods will be left in the dust.
