1. Los Angeles

Topping our list of the most catholic cities in the United States is the city of Los Angeles. While it might hold its reputation for Hollywood, and movie stars, the City of Angels, housing a substantial population of 4.2 million Catholics within its diocese, boasts a profound Catholic heritage. Los Angeles can also be considered as one of the most catholic cities in the world. This legacy stretches back to the era of Spanish mission settlements, an era when Franciscan friars established missions along California’s coastline.

Established on September 8, 1771, by Father Pedro Cambón and Father Angel Somera, the San Gabriel Arcángel Mission served as the inaugural mother church of Los Angeles County. The original altar, a testament to craftsmanship, was meticulously crafted in Mexico City, while the surrounding wooden statues found their origins in Spain, sculpted with intricate detail.
