The anesthesiologists give patients a general or local anesthetic before or after surgery. However, this is not only what they do, anesthesiologists also stay during surgery to monitor the patient’s blood pressure, temperature, heart rhythm, the level of consciousness and the amount of oxygen in the blood. Anesthesiologists are the ones who need to keep a patient safe and comfortable during surgery. You may think this is easy, but in order to be an anesthesiologist, you need to have a great deal of education and expertise.
