Although North Korea is characterized by its ethnic and linguistic homogeneity, it is important to note the presence of certain minority groups within the country. These include repatriated Koreans, small religious communities, and migrants from neighboring China and Japan. Genetic studies have provided compelling evidence regarding the origins of Koreans, suggesting a connection with central Asian Mongolians. Additionally, these studies indicate that Koreans share a closer genetic relationship with the Japanese population, while their genetic distance from the Chinese is relatively greater.
