Easy audition songs to sing for beginners might not guarantee that you’ll be seeing yourself on a stage, but they’ll hopefully make your voice sound a little bit better for the judges.
Not everyone is blessed with vocal talents. As much as we all want to sing like Beyonce or Adele, it’s just not possible for some people. However, for those who can carry a tune, there’s at least hope that you can fine-tune your voice to make it more pleasant sounding. If you have big dreams for a music career, there’s no doubt you will have to audition a few (or maybe even hundreds) of times. When it comes to choosing the perfect audition song, there is a world of possibilities. Obviously those possibilities are limited to genre and singing style and range — for example, some songs are good audition songs for altos, but not baritones. In most cases, pop audition songs can be the contenders among these “easier” songs. Spoiler alert — those are definitely the majority of songs you’ll find on our list. In most cases, beginners in singing are mezzo-sopranos. Some songs to fit these voices include the end of “Home” from Beauty and the Beast, “Not for the Life of Me” from Thoroughly Modern Millie, or practically any song sung by a character who you think sounds like you. You need to pick something that you can do best — never go for something so challenging that you won’t sound great at. Ultimately, if you choose a song that shows off your acting and singing capabilities (and if you prepare it correctly) you should have a successful audition.
In consideration to that, here is a list of audition songs that are ideal for beginners. They are listed in order from “less east,” to “easiest.” We have consulted several websites to come up with this hierarchy. One of the popular sites that we engaged in our survey for audition resources include the Chrysalis Youth Theatre, Backstage and a Google search. Please note that not every song will fit every voice.

- “Love Song” – Sara Bareilles
This is a debut single done by American singer and songwriter Sara Bareilles. The song’s release was done in June 2007 through Epic Records from her main-label debut album named “Little Voice (2007)”. “Love song” got a nomination for the best female pop vocal performance and the song of the year at the 2009 Grammy Awards.
- “Put Your Records on” – Corrine Bailey Rae
This track pays respect to “Three Little Birds” Bob Marley’s song in the two opening lines. It’s from the self-titled debut album for Corine Bailey Rae (2006). “Put your records on” earned Record of the year and Grammy nominations for the song of the year.
- “Already Gone” – Kelly Clarkson
From Kelly Clarkson’s 2008 album, All I Ever Wanted, “Already Gone” was her third release. This single achieved #13 on the Billboard Hot 100. At the time of this release, there was an argument of fans comparing between this single and Beyoncé’s “Halo” because of a similar style of arrangement in the two songs. The two were both produced by producer Ryan Tedder.
- “Chain of fools” – Aretha Franklin
This song is about discovering your unfaithful partner. It rose to #2 among the five best ten hits scored by Aretha Franklin in 1967. In the subsequent year, this song wound up on Aretha’s album “Lady Soul” – at #2.
- “Inseparable” – Jasmine Trias
The single “Inseparable” was sung at first by Natalie Cole. This upload is a cover version by Jasmine Trias, a Filipino-American singer. The release of the album was done in 2006 by Universal Records Philippines. You can get the physical album at Mia Music & Books online shop from Japan.
- “And I am Telling you I’m not Going” – By Jennifer Hudson
This song was recorded in 2006 by singer Jennifer Hudson, a previous American icon contestant. She played the character Effie in the motion picture reworking of Dreamgirls. On the U.S. billboard hot 100 chart, the Dreamgirls movie soundtrack topped at #60 and 14 on the chart R&B. Jennifer won the 2006 Award of Academy for Best Supporting Actress because of her acting in Dreamgirls.
- “The way you make me feel” – Find Lil Rounds (Original is Michael Jackson)
Lil Rounds was a Top 13 winner in the eighth season of the reality show, American Idol. Rounds was among the initial front-runners in Hollywood Week, and way back from the auditions. Lil Rounds has been reprimanded for picking the wrong choice of songs though, and has also been described with the words “karaoke” and “copycat.”
- “Taking Chances” – Celine Dion
Taking Chances makes up the tenth English and 23rd studio album overall by Celine Dion, a Canadian singer. Columbia Records did the release of this album in November 2007. Since 2004’s Miracle, this was her first studio album. Dion embarked to the music scene after about five years of A New Day performance in Las Vegas.
- “I need you” – Mark Bautista
“I need you” is one of Mark Bautista’s hits created by Ty Lacy and Dennis Matkosky. The song has also been done by LeAnn Rimes, an American artist of country pop. The song pays homage to Don Bluth and spent twenty-five weeks to earn #11 on the charts of the billboard hot 100.
- “ A Broken Wing” – Martina McBride
“A broken wing” song was written by Sam Hogin, Phil Barnhart, and James House, and its recording was done by Martina McBride, an American singer of country music. The single was published in 1997 being McBride’s second single from the album Evolution. “A broken wing” became McBride’s second #1 single in January 1998.
- “Fallin’ For You” – Colbie Caillat
The song “Fallin’ for you” was written by American singer-songwriter, Colbie Caillat. This song was released in 2009, as the lead single from its album. Regarding genre, the song is a pop ballad.
- “Bubbly” – Colbie Caillat
Another Colbie Caillat song makes our list of easy audition songs to sing for beginners, and this song is the debut single from her unveiling album, Coco. The song’s release was done as the leading single of the album on May 15, 2007. The American Idol season 6 finalist Chris Sligh is the writer of the song “Here Comes Goodbye.” The American country music group Rascal Flatts did the recording of the song. This song debuted at number 29 in 2009 on the Billboard Country songs list and became their tenth number one on the chart.

“Summer Nights” is another song recorded by American country music group Rascal Flatts. It was written by Gary LeVox the bands lead singer, along with Brett James. It was published in May 2009 as the second single from its sixth studio album Unstoppable.

This song talks about a girl whose life seems to be in pieces. When she hits bottom (metaphorically speaking), she thinks about the man she loves and knows that she has to come out of her depression to enjoy his company again.
- “Breathe (2 AM)” – Anna Nalick
“Breathe” is a song by Anna Nalick, an American singer-songwriter. Its first release was in 2004. After that, it was re-issued in 2006 and mapped at #45 on the billboard of the hot 100. “Breathe” was charted at #4 on the Adult Contemporary in the U.S.
- “100 years” – Five for Fighting
“100 years” is a song done by an American artist Five for Fighting. The song was issued in November 2003 being the first single from “The Battle for Everything” album. The song’s melody is taken from “Plainsong” by The Cure, which was initially published in 1989.
- “So Small” – Carrie Underwood
Who doesn’t love to sing along to a good Carrie Underwood song? Underwood wrote this song in partnership with Hillary Lindsey and Luke Laird. This album was published on August 14, 2007, in Canada and August 28, 2007, in the US.
- “Don’t forget to remember me” – By Carrie Underwood
This single constitutes Underwood’s second publication to country broadcasting radio. In early 2006, “Don’t forget to remember me” earned #2 on the billboard charts of country music. It’s not one of her most well-known songs, but since then, 403,000 copies of the album have sold.
