An effective justice system is crucial for maintaining law and order and ensuring accountability, stability, equality, and access to justice for all. It plays a crucial role in protecting the innocent, keeping communities safe, and providing a peaceful jurisdiction.
However, a concerning trend has emerged where justice systems around the world are failing, as reported by the World Justice Project (WJP). The rule of law weakened in a majority of countries between 2022 and 2023. According to the report, 56% of countries experienced a decline in fundamental rights. Civil justice witnessed a drop in 66% of countries while criminal justice also fell in 56% of countries around the world between 2022 and 2023.
