20 Countries That Import the Most Natural Gas in the World

4. Germany

Natural Gas Imports in 2022: 2,963.8 billion cubic feet

In 2019, Germany was the largest consumer of natural gas in Europe, using 8.6 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d). As reported by EIA, natural gas accounted for 25% of Germany’s total primary energy consumption, with a slight increase in consumption that year. Although Germany lacks liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals, it is well integrated with the rest of Europe through an extensive network of natural gas pipelines. Germany imports natural gas primarily from Russia, Norway, and the Netherlands.
