Our Methodology
Gourmet is a problematic term in the US coffee culture primarily because it does not have a set definition. However, in this methodology, we defined a gourmet coffee brand as one that sells high-quality specialty coffee. Additionally, we developed a scoring system based on five key metrics: taste, variety, quality, awards and recognitions, and customer reviews. We used Coffee Review, a coffee review site, to score the brands based on taste, variety, and quality. Then, we scored the brands based on awards and recognition using information from Specialty Coffee Association (SCA). Lastly, we scored the brands based on customer reviews under the Coffee Roasters category on Trustpilot. Using the scores, we obtained 30 brands. After that, we scoured the internet for information to ensure that only the best brands made to the list. We obtained 24 gourmet coffee brands after this rigorous exercise. Finally, we ranked them based on how much each brand sells coffee beans per 12 oz bag. The prices were obtained from each brand’s website. The following ranking is from the cheapest to the most expensive gourmet coffee brand.
