12. 1995 12 ton Peru drug bust

In 1995, the US Coast Guard carried out a huge drug bust off the coast of Peru, which at the time was the biggest drug bust on the high seas, though it would soon be topped. The value was over $150 million as the seizure was of over 12 tons of cocaine, and took place when the US Coast Guard boarded a vessel which they suspected of carrying drugs.

Canada and the US get alone quite well, and even carry out join operations against the illegal drug trade, such as the one only a couple of years ago in 2018, which resulted in the capture of over 12 tons of cocaine, along with one ton of marijuana, worth currently around $400 million. While smugglers are getting creative, such as creating semi submersibles designed especially to evade the law, the law is catching on as well, as proven by our list of biggest drug busts in US history.
